Appearance Ltd (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the Appearance mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you use our service.
When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name, and username. You may optionally provide a phone number.
Our appearance scan captures multi-angle photographs (typically 6 angles) using your device’s camera, a 3D face mesh wireframe using ARKit (1,220 vertices), face metrics and proportions derived from the 3D mesh, and your hair profile preferences.
We collect the messages you send within the Mirror AI chat interface. These messages are processed by Google Gemini to generate responses and visualizations. Conversation history is persisted to your account for continuity.
With your explicit permission, we may access iOS calendar events through EventKit to detect upcoming appointments relevant to your appearance schedule.
With your explicit consent, we may scan Gmail for booking confirmation emails to automatically detect appointments. We store extracted metadata (dates, venue names, confirmation numbers) but not full email content.
With your permission, we collect device location to provide venue-relevant features such as nearby stylists. Location data is cached for up to 24 hours and is not shared with third parties.
With your permission, we use the device microphone for voice input transcription within the AI chat. Audio is not recorded or stored — only the resulting text transcription is used.
We collect push notification tokens (Expo Push Tokens), device name, and device model for delivering notifications and providing support.
Your photographs and chat messages are processed by Google Gemini (via Google AI Studio) to generate AI visualizations and conversational responses. Generated images are stored in your account. Google’s data use policies apply to data processed through their APIs. We do not use your data to train AI models.

Your data is stored on Google Cloud infrastructure in the europe-west2 (London) region. Booking integration credentials are encrypted with AES-256-GCM. All data in transit is protected via HTTPS. Stored images use immutable cache headers for integrity and performance.

Appearance is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or via email. Your continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
